Hybrid Teacher Institute: new design, proven results

The Institute is truly life-changing. It has informed all my teaching and brought out the writer in me.

National Writing Project sites are well-known for their Invitational Summer Institutes, an intensive writing instruction course for K-16 teachers of all disciplines.  During the Institute, teachers read and discuss articles about teaching writing, prepare a demonstration lesson based around their research, and experience being writers themselves.

In acknowledgement of teachers' busy lives, NVWP has developed a hybrid version of their traditional Summer Invitational Institute.  The Teacher Writing Institute preserves all  the meaningful experiences of the original Summer Institute, but combines on line class work with some Face to Face meetings.  The non-University credit Teacher Writing Institute is offered over a six week period during the school year or during the summer, and awards CEU points to teachers.   Participants become NVWP Teacher Leaders  and are prepared not only to improve writing instruction in their own classrooms, but to share their learning with other teachers in professional development workshops.
