NVWP Fall and Spring events!

Past Event

Wednesday, September 10, 2025 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM EDT

Northern Virginia Writing Project invites you to events in the fall of ’25 and the spring of ‘26

We have tried to put together a variety of opportunities to read, write, and talk with Teacher Consultants from our NWP community.  You are invited to all events and we hope you will make time for at least one or two.  Here’s what we propose:

Writing Wednesdays

Come (on Zoom) to spend time writing with fellow NVWP writers, as a TC takes you through a prompt.  We will be recruiting TCs to offer these prompts, in whatever genre they choose.  Please, please consider being in charge of one of these sessions.

Reading

Let’s try a book club this year!  We will meet twice a semester, from 7-8, both fall and spring.  We will meet via Zoom, and perhaps meeting together in person for the last meeting in the fall and in the spring.

Fall    2025.

I would like to suggest reading a book that has had great value in your teaching career.  Please send your suggestions; otherwise I will choose one from our Book List.  We’ll try meeting twice a semester on Tuesday eveningsand see how that works.

In the spring of 2026, I would like to suggest an idea I’ve been throwing around (in my head) for a while. Let’s try reading one of Still House Press’s published books.  This press is run by members and grand students from the English Department and housed in Watershed Lit.  It actually began forming when I was in the MFA program at GMU, and I worked on it for a year.  For more info, you can look at the website:  https://www.stillhousepress.org.  Meeting dates:

Fall of 2025:

·      October 14

·      December 16

Spring of 2026:

·      January 27

·      April 14

Conversation:

Exciting news!  We will be partnering with Writing by the Rails, an established writing group in Northern Virginia.  Andrea Yarbough, who has helped so much with NVWP events and outings, is the new president of the organization.  We would like to have our first meeting together face to face—perhaps in the Fairfax Library.  We will be checking the calendars for NVWP and Writing by the Rails to come up with a workable date.  We’ll be deciding on the format, also.  If anybody has any ideas for a meeting format, please let me know.

In the spring of 2025, we would like to have a version of the writing conference we had last spring, in which we talked about publishing your work and had two presenters guide us into what turned out to be some fantastic writing.  We will be looking at calendars, especially the month of April.  This, too, will be face to face.

NVWP needs your participation and your help.  I will be sending out response pages when school starts (as soon as I figure out how to use Google surveys).  I hope you will consider being in charge of one of the writing sessions and/or leading a book group discussion. I also hope we will have so many people sign up that we’ll have to use two meeting rooms.  If you don’t want to wait until the beginning of school, just email me with your interests and questions:  lgoetsch@gmu.edu .
